The quest for the perfect text application – for some of us it has been a lifelong goal, or at least it feels like it. I realised very early on in my computing life that I did not enjoy playing with formatting in Word or Pages, and when I discovered that Markdown provides the ability […]
Drafts is one of my most frequently used applications on iOS and I’m honoured to have been one of the beta testers for the Mac version. If you’re interested in my thoughts then I wrote a whole review over on MacStories.
@rosemaryorchard it’s awesome, and I’ve wanted this app since I got the first iOS app back in the day.
@rosemaryorchard Great review!
@rosemaryorchard I do NOT need yet another text editor. However, you and others have raved about it, so, installing… 😀
@Miraz I love Drafts! It depends on your needs and workflows as to if it will click for you – but it definitely did for me 🙂
@rosemaryorchard Can you point it at a folder of text files on Mac? Or is it tied to the same mysterious iCloud bundle as the iOS version?
@devilgate It uses the iCloud bundle. I do know of an app which should be beta-ing soon that will work with a folder of files but I’m sworn to secrecy!
@rosemaryorchard Thanks. Not for me, then, even though I use and like it on iOS. I want to be able to use any editor on Mac.
@Miraz Drafts is AWESOME. I’ve been using the iOS version since it came out, and helped beta test the Mac version. The developer, Greg, aka @Agiletortoise, is a great human being. We’ve had lunch together more than once. Highly recommended! (Both Greg and the app.)
@retrophisch I’ve grabbed it on my Mac and also on the iPad but haven’t yet had a chance to do more than open it. I’m looking forward to experimenting.
@Miraz Pretty much all the text of my posts for Micro.blog start in Drafts. As do original (i.e., not replies) text messages, emails, etc. It really is where text starts for me on my devices.
@retrophisch Ok. I currently use (all of) BBEdit, Bear, Ulysses, MarsEdit. It’ll be interesting to see how Drafts fits in. At least it’s free and I may not need the paid upgrade.
@Miraz textmate instead Of BBEdit- Add in IAWriter and with you … I did the drafts pro upgrade to get the Mac synch – I need my stuff on all devices
